Our darling Altona!

Gareth and I started brainstorming our second Able and Game Melbourne card. I've often got a rough idea for cards but need to spend time getting the idea just right. Gareth and I often do this idea refining via msn, as we did with this card yesterday afternoon. Gareth did say to me last night, what if there is an Altona Northcote out there, they might get offended. Maybe by the time Gareth and I have kids we will call him or her Altona Northcote. This card will be making its debut at Rose Street on Saturday and is also available on Etsy.

Geektastic!

Gareth and I finally got to see the new Star Trek film on the weekend, I have been looking forward to it for months. Gareth got me hooked about a year ago after years of me saying it was a load of crud. He was watching Deep Space Nine though, I think that may have had something to do with it. When he started watching Voyager I got hooked pretty quickly and my new found love is what inspired me to make our Star Trek card.

We are onto Next Gen although I may have spoiled it by watching Nemesis on Sunday. I was curious after looking up the film on Wikipedia and reading that in the show Spaced, Simon Pegg's character had said every odd-numbered Star Trek film being shite was a fact of life. Nemesis is the 10th film and the latest, with him starring is Montgomery Scott, is the 11th. On that he said "fate put me in the movie to show me I was talking out of my ass". Whenever I sell the Able and Game Star Trek card I get excited because it always gives me a chance to talk geek with someone about the show.

Trade Fairs

Able and Game will be at two trade shows next month which is really exciting, but also means we are both very busy preparing everything. I've got an idea in my head for our display at Design Made Trade, but I'm not sure if it will work, but I am looking forward to decking out our 3 meter by 3 meter cardboard frame. You can have a look at who else is coming here.

Reminds me of kittens and newspapers

This is the type of card I would like to find, I think if I saw this I would snap it up right away to give to Gareth. This new Able and Game card is up in the Etsy shop and it will be making its debut this weekend at Rose Street. I spent some time drawing a few different kittens trying to work out how they would all sit and I'm rather fond of cats and can tell you where all the local cats live between our house and the shops about 1km away. I walk there almost every day and I know which ones are just for looking and which ones let you pat them.

Cooking Buns

Another of the new Able and Game baby and pregnancy cards is our Bun In The Oven card listed on Etsy. We also have a similar card for when the baby is born. We have been getting some really great feedback at Rose Street and one woman started laughing, then said "wow, I've never actually laughed out loud at a card before, well done" and it was the bun in the oven card!

Cupcakes

The perfect card for those extra special people, because not much beats cupcakes. This Able and Game card was inspired after some cupcakes we cooked up, ours had sprinkles on them like this one, but the icing wasn't all fancy like this card, which is available on Etsy. The count down to the trade shows is really ticking on by, we have not one but two within a two week period. First Design Made Trade, then First in Style at the Life in Style show. It will an exciting time for Able and Game!

We Love Melbourne!

We've had the idea for this card in the works for quite a while now, the only thing that was stopping it going ahead was the trip to zone two I needed to take to get the photographs. Gareth suggested I do one for each end of the line station but that seems like a big time investment after this last trip I took. We have an Able and Game Melbourne range in the works, but I wanted to get this one up and out there to see what people think of it. We will be debuting this card tomorrow at Rose Street in Fitzroy and it is also up on Etsy.

What goes up must come ...

Down! So we had our Up The Duff card and realised it was just right for people who are pregnant, but what about the people who have had the baby? Well they have come down from the duff right? That was our thinking, so we made a Down The Duff card!

In other news you can now get Able and Game A5 prints of our greeting cards. If you want a particular design but as a larger artwork you can frame just purchase the Etsy listing and let us know which design you would like in the message to seller section. I personally think the superfast internet card would look lovely as a framed print in a computer room. Just to remind you of the days of dial up and just how horrid it all was.

Graduating?

Our new Able and Game graduation card is up on Etsy, and it is inspired by the humble bowl of ramen, a bit of a university staple. When I was at uni I loved to have the Indonesian style noodles with the kekap manis inside a bread role. Super tacky and super bad for you but also super cheap. Even though I left uni over 7 years ago I still have a soft spot for a big bowl of ramen noodles, but I think I'm a bit pickier these days and only like certain brands.

Cluck cluck cluck!

We are adding more and more cards to the Able and Game range of new baby/pregnancy cards. This one is well suited to someone who already has a few children, although even one baby only 10 more are needed to make a soccer team. However it will be hard work for the commentator when all the players have the same surname! This card is available on Etsy, along with the other 4 cards for pregnant or recently babied up people.

Up The Duff

We have three new baby/pregnancy cards by Able and Game available in the Etsy shop with more designs to come. This one above is called Up The Duff and is just right for friends or family who have found out they are up the duff!

New Stockist - Rude Health

Able and Game have a new card stockist in Melbourne called Rude Health on 17 Irwell Street in St. Kilda. The shop has just opened and if you look carefully you can see our cards on the back counter. Julia, who runs Rude Health says you can expect to find polka dot fifties dresses, crocheted alien birds, silk high-waisted undies, little red riding hood capes, stripy one-piece pyjamas, paperboy woollen caps and felt lungs in jars in the new shop. Every item is sweatshop-free and made in Australia as well which is surely a reason to go and visit!
