Christmas Cards?

We have had a few people ask if we are doing Able and Game Christmas Cards this year, so thought we would do a post to say we are. Gareth and I have been having fun coming up with ideas as well as adapting some existing designs and turning them into Christmas Cards.

It feels a little early, but we have started to put them up in our Etsy shop, and have a
special section for the Christmas Cards. I'll post more on the blog closer to Christmas, because September really is a bit early, although I have been told via @Fibobo that Myer has their Christmas Shop up!

Sequins on my bra!

Oh, Honey is a card I really like, but its exact purpose I am not entirely sure, so I would love to know when you would use this card. I would use it for someone who needs a bit of cheering up, or maybe even for someone who has got good news. The 'Oh, Honey' seems to work on a few levels for me, and the guy is rather super stylish, which always helps.

This card is
available on Etsy and also at our markets this weekend. I just realised who really needs this card sent to them today, the lovely Brynne Gordon, because when I look at her all I think is oh, honey!

Tax Time?

There is no accounting for Gareth's skills in coming up with card ideas. This one is a little homage to his accounting skills and the way he can work an excel spreadsheet, because no matter how good I think I am, he is always 30 times better. This card is available on Etsy and is perfect for someone who values a Texas Instrument.

Pretty Jewells

Did you know that Jewell station opened in 1884 and was called South Brunswick station? It was changed to Jewell in the 1950s and whenever I see it, it reminded me of the now defunct discount supermarket chain. Those of you in Brunswick, or with loved ones in Brunswick are probably the only people who would really want to use this card, but we like making cards that only small groups of people will understand. Jewell is available on Etsy and if you're in Melbourne, at the following markets this weekend:

Viking Man

Gareth sent me an email with the idea for this Able and Game card yesterday, his wording as a little different, he suggested "I will conquer your heart" but I thought it sounded a little stalkerish, in a Death Cab For Cutie kind of way. So we go to working on the image, googling pictures of vikings. I think the thing I like most about this guy is the chocolate ice cream container on his head. The ladies gumboots come a close second.

This little guy is available on Etsy, or if you're in Melbourne come check him out at our weekend markets. The forecast for tomorrow is 25 degrees, so
Hollie and I will have smiles on our dials all day at Rose Street.

Primary Power

This little guy is one of my favourites, despite his unfortunate hairstyle and funny knees. I think it is his eyes, he looks a little sad and shy, but he is rocking the primary coloured outfit pretty well I think. I saw a man walk by in an all green outfit on Sunday at the Arts Centre Market. He had green pants, a green argyle jumper and green shoes and it was such a great outfit, I wish I had a street fashion blog just to take a picture of him. This lovely guy is available on Etsy for you to send to someone you might be eyeing off.

Engagement Cards

So my sister is coming up with some good engagement cards, this was her second suggestion. I was thinking about what to have for the image, and thought of the little goldfish in the tank. I asked Hollie if the fishtank was a good idea at Rose Street on Saturday and she liked it and suggested having the little love heart bubbles. This card is available on Etsy for those of you with friends planning on getting hitched.

RSVP

So my sister has come into the card designing fold and came up with the idea for this card. I had lots of laughs making the online dating profile and did some research on a few dating sites. I think Gareth and I should make our own Able and Game online dating site called Lonely Heart.

Some of the questions will include:
1. Do you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain?
2. Do you like sharing your superfast internet connection?
3. Would you like to go on The Amazing race with your lover?
4. Would you start watching Star Trek for your loved one?

I am sure with questions like these we will match people perfectly. As long as the Star Trek fans are dating people willing to be assimilated we know the world will be okay. We will make millions!

Yaysies!

I got the idea for this card sitting at Rose Street with Hollie (who is my next door neighbour and has the lovely label Hokey) as we say it to each other all the time. I love picking up phrases from friends, because when you're not around them and you hear yourself say something they often say it reminds you of them. This card is available on Etsy as well as our weekend markets in Melbourne. This weekend we will be at the following markets:

Saturday 12th September
ROSE STREET ARTIST MARKET
When: Saturday 12th September from 11am - 5pm
Where: 60 Rose Street, Fitzroy

Sunday 13th September

Special Special

This card is part of our Felt Tip Fun range. It is Gareth's favourite range and this card caused a guy at Rose Street to once say "OMG! I hate cards, I never buy them, but this is the best card ever" which kind of made our day. We have put this horsey fellow up on Etsy, for all you felt tip pen lovers out there. In other very exciting news, Able and Game have been shortlisted for a SOYA Award which is also rather special.

For the Melbourne people, we will be out and about on the weekend at three different markets, so if you need to get a Father's Day you can head to any of these locations:

Saturday 5th September

Dirt Box

This winter, living in Melbourne seriously made me consider shifting to Brisbane. I remember going to sleep one night clutching two hot water bottles thinking this would never happen in Brisbane. Coincidentally I met Alyssa from Lyssy May the next day, who had shifted down from Brisbane to Melbourne and she made it sound rather sunshiny and lollypoppy.

I can however live vicariously through the cards we send off to all these lovely shops in locations much warmer. Dirtbox is a menswear store in Brisbane, on broadway on the mall, and they stock a range of our Able and Game cards. I love the wood paneling and framed portraits hanging above the clothing racks and they have a great blog featuring the fashions they stock in the shop. If you're feeling a little left out because you're a girl they have a sister shop next door called Bessie Head for woman's clothes and accessories, and they also have a blog. If you're in Brisbane I am sure you already know about this shop, I think it is probably the go to place for great fashion, if not, now you know where to go.

She has good taste!

Father's Day in Australia is only days away, and I realised we didn't have a Mum Chose Well card. So I used the same image from the Dad Chose Well card, but made this a little more red, like a Polaroid from January 1975. It is available from our Etsy shop, and will be available to Melbourne people at the three markets we are doing this weekend.
